Duties
The department of Electrical Engineering (ISY) is central to the engineering education at LiU both regarding basic and applied knowledge. Our research is based on industrial needs, and ranges from basic research to direct application in collaboration projects. The Information Coding division (ICG) within ISY uses information- and coding-theoretic methods alternatively quantum technology to develop communication, identification, and computing methods for future networks that are reliable, secure, private, robust, have low complexity and/or low latency.
The current position as assistant professor is a part of the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). WASP is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever; a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment (see https://wasp-sweden.org/). WASP comprises five Swedish full partner universities and a substantial part of Swedish industry and commerce. The WASP initiative includes among many instruments an international recruitment program and the present announcement aims to strengthen Linköping University specifically in the field of machine learning within the AI focus-area of WASP. Specifically, the goal is to complement the existing excellence in areas of Computer Vision, Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity.
The research includes Machine Learning with particular emphasis on image and video analysis using anomaly detection techniques towards automated criminal activity detection as well as detection of AI-generated media. The focus is on research and development of methods and mathematical tools with the aim of better understanding the theories and processes within applications of machine learning in digital forensics. Suitable research questions within Digital Forensics should match one or more areas 1) image and video anomaly detection and 2) remote sensing. Examples of suitable research topics include, but are not limited to, detection of fake images and videos generated using AI models and automated video and observational surveillance.
This position is hosted at the Information Coding division, together with other researchers of the Digital Forensics group from the Computer Vision division. Therefore, you are also expected to interface with researchers in the Information Coding division working in other areas such as quantum technologies and information-theoretic security, both of which can also benefit from machine learning. As an assistant professor, you are expected to collaborate with other research areas present in the Information Coding division, such as quantum machine learning.
The purpose of the employment is that the assistant professor is to be given the opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and to obtain both the research and teaching qualifications required for employment as associate professor.
