Description of the subject area
Cardiology is a well-established and comprehensive activity at KI and Karolinska University Hospital, both clinically and research-wise. A clinical area that has expanded significantly in recent years is advanced treatment of various arrhythmias. In this area, catheter-borne ablation treatment is in strong development and Karolinska University Hospital is currently the largest center in the Nordic region and one of the largest in Europe when it comes to invasive electrophysiology, with over 1700 procedures per year. In addition to ablation activities, several other areas of arrhythmology have developed significantly, such as device therapy with pacemakers and ICD in patients with heart failure, cardiogenetic outpatient activity, telemedicine screening and follow-up, and sports cardiology.
The person we are looking for is expected to lead the clinical research in the field of arrhythmology and have overall responsibility for the development of academic cardiology both within the department and the within the clinical activities in the hospital.
