The Department of Biology at Lakehead University invites applications for a Tenure Track Appointment. We are looking for a candidate to establish a dynamic and externally-funded program of research in the areas of Evolutionary Ecology and/or Population/Community Ecology using plant or animal model system(s) at Lakehead University’s Thunder Bay campus. Candidates with strong quantitative skills, including ecological or evolutionary modelling, would be significant assets. The successful candidate will also have expertise needed to teach general and specialty courses for the Department of Biology which has one of the largest undergraduate enrolments on campus. The position will commence August 1, 2020 at a rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.
For consideration, candidates will have:
- An earned Ph.D. with demonstrated expertise in evolutionary, population, or community ecology from a Ph.D. granting institution recognized by Canadian Universities;
- A successful track record of high-quality research, and the communication of research through both traditional and non-traditional venues;
- A demonstrated commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Desire and ability to help build enrollment at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of course delivery is highly desired.

The Department of Biology at Lakehead University is a dynamic group of interdisciplinary researchers with active field and laboratory research programs in ecology, evolution, molecular biology, and their interactions. Several government and not-for-profit organizations located in Thunder Bay offer significant opportunities for collaborative research, including the Centre for Northern Forest Ecosystem Research (CNFER) of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and the Wildlife Conservation Society of Canada. Lakehead University is a member of the Ontario Universities Field Program in Biology (www.oupfb.ca) which provides exceptional opportunities for field-based instruction. Lakehead University has several centralized labs to support research, including the Lakehead University Environmental Laboratory, the Lakehead University Instrumentation Lab, the Paleo DNA Laboratory for molecular-based research, and aquatic-based research through the Biology Aquatic Facility and Aquatic Toxicology Research Centre.
