A postdoctoral position is available in the Bekker-Jensen lab at Center for Healthy Aging at The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM). The ERC funded position is fixed termed for 2 years with the possibility of extension and is available from 1 September 2020 or upon agreement.
Job description
To protect against harmful environmental effects, all organisms have developed elaborate stress-surveillance and -response mechanisms. Cellular stress responses culminate in the activation of MAP kinase (p38 and JNK) signaling pathways that allow for adaptation and ultimately restoration of cellular and organismal homeostasis.
The overarching aims of both my research group as a whole and my recently obtained ERC Consolidator Grant is to uncover the molecular details of these pathways, and to understand their physiological and pathological implications in animal models. Such work is expected to uncover novel insights into the all-important mechanisms of cellular maintenance and adaptation, which may ultimately be exploited therapeutically to combat a range of diseases.
Starting at the cellular level, we have recently made several exciting discoveries related to the molecular signals and upstream regulators that govern stress-induced MAP kinase activation. We are moving towards studies of how these pathways impact on the fitness and disease susceptibility of whole organisms. To this end, we have generated and rudimentarily characterized a number of mouse knockout lines. These will be subjected to both basic characterization and a range of disease-relevant interventions.
The lab is thus in need of a skilled professional to work in the interphase between advanced cell culture and experimental mouse models. The precise contents of the postdoc project will be defined through discussions with the selected candidate.

Scientific environment
The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) offers an ambitious scientific environment, with many different nationalities represented. ICMM aims to produce research with high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components and molecular cellular mechanisms in a medical context. ICMM currently comprises five research programs, three high profile Research Centers as well as a number of international research groups. Required qualifications

Required qualifications:
- A PhD degree within biomedical science or equivalent relevant discipline.
- A solid scientific track record within basic biology and/or experimental animal work.
- Experience with mouse models of cancer, pathology of kidney, heart and/or other organs will be considered a distinct advantage, but is not a prerequisite.
- Proven ability to present and publish research data.
- Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.

Terms of salary and employment
The terms of employment are set according to the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant professional organization.
Currently, the monthly salary starts at DKK 34,654 / approx. EUR 4,620 (April 2020 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.
The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark for the last 10 years.
