Postdoctoral Fellowship (Translational Cardiovascular Medicine) University of Alberta

There is an opening for a postdoctoral fellow in our research group. I am a Cardiologist and Clinician-Scientist and we are studying the role of various aspects of heart failure, vascular disease and lung disease with the aim to discover and translate new therapies. We have identified and characterized the apelin pathway as a major protective peptide family which is compromised in diseased states. We currently have new drugs targeting the apelin pathway as treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension and heart failure (apelin analogs; https://pearkotherapeutics.com). We also have a major program in studying human explanted hearts and COVID/long-COVID-ACE2 using both animal models and patient samples. We have a complete set of experimental and clinical tools and there is access, through the Cardiovascular Research Centre to core facilities for high resolution imaging, phenotyping and molecular biology.

The stipend will start at $45,000 per year. Our research group consist of 9 staff (trainees, technicians and fellows) involved in translational research and 4 trainees involved in clinical research. Successful applicants will have completed their PhD within the last 3 years. Applicants should email their curriculum vitae to Dr. Gavin Y. Oudit at gavin.oudit@ualberta.ca; our website is https://www.ualberta.ca/medicine/about/people/gavin-oudit. This should include complete details of academic record, publications, a statement of personal research goals, and the names of two referees whom we may contact for further details.
