A team of eleven professors from six Canadian universities and more than 30 Quebec, Canadian and international academic and industrial collaborators, has received funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for the Collaborative Research and Training Experience in Sustainable Electronics and Eco-Design (CREATE SEED https://www.polymtl.ca/create-seed/en ). In this program, student interns and researchers will address issues related to electrical and electronic equipment waste (also known as WEEE or e-waste), by optimizing component recovery and recycling from existing waste.
CREATE SEED has the ambitious long-term objective to train a new generation of experts with a circular vision in electronics, where device beginning- and end-of-life are as important as device performance. Designers, manufacturers, investors, traders, miners, raw material producers, consumers, policymakers have a crucial role to play in reducing waste and retaining value within the system, thus improving the environmental/human health performance of consumer electronics.

Responsibilities

- Conducting scientific research
- Participation in educational activities (mandatory: one summer school per year + two online workshop per year organize by CREATE SEED team)
- Take 6 credits in flipped courses on topics related to the program
- Dissemination of work through conferences, preparing drafts, writing articles
