PhD grants : “Interpretable Strategic Knowledge Discovery in the Web of Data” (MIPTIS), France

Description

  • Duration

36 monthsdoctoral funding

  • Summary of thesis project

The Web of Data is already widely used in information retrieval. Its knowledge graphs should also be a source of strategic knowledge to support knowledge workers such as journalists or specialists in humanities and social sciences. In particular, a major challenge to help them is to identify socio-economic indicators to quantify phenomena and their impact within a domain. Unfortunately, the diversity of entities and their links in graphs makes it difficult to develop transdisciplinary automated methods to identify these indicators, that reflect the specificities of each discipline. In addition to being heterogeneous, Web knowledge graphs are numerous, large and distributed, raising the challenge of parsimonious algorithms to scale. The goal of this PhD thesis is to propose new transdisciplinary models and to implement them in Web knowledge graphs in order to automatically discover interpretable indicators within their socio-economic domain. The main expected contributions are: the proposal of data analysis model benefiting from ontologies, the proposal of algorithms for generating socio-economic indicators and the development of an online prototype following FAIR principles.
