Postdoctoral research contract (4 years) on behavioural ecology

Understanding the processes driving interactions between hosts and parasites is paramount from ecological, evolutionary and epidemiological points of view. This topic attains far-reaching repercussions for animal and human welfare, especially regarding those parasites transmitting vector-borne diseases. Research on host-parasite interactions requires an integrated multilevel approach combining the underlying physiological and immunological mechanisms involved in host defences against parasite infections, with the implications at the behavioural and ecological levels for life-history evolution of both hosts and parasites. Regarding the ecology of host-parasite interactions, two current hot topics deal with elucidating the mechanisms employed by parasites for host location, and investigating the behavioural strategies used by hosts to minimize the deleterious effects of parasites.
