The Department of Computer Engineering and Software Engineering is housed in the Lassonde pavilions and has 41 professors, 4 lecturers, 15 administrative and technical support staff and around sixty postdoctoral fellows and associates and research associates. . The department has the largest student community at Polytechnique, with over 1,450 undergraduate and over 350 graduate students. It offers two undergraduate programs, in computer engineering and in software engineering, and several graduate programs in computer engineering. The department carries out cutting-edge research activities, in close collaboration with industry, in the following areas: software design, analytics and operations; cybersecurity and cyber resilience; computational medical imaging and biomedical technologies; human-machine interaction and visualization; mobile computer networks and cloud computing; data science and artificial intelligence; and cyber-physical and on-board systems.

FUNCTIONS
The person sought must exercise dynamism and creativity the functions associated with this position. In particular, it should:

  • supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
  • carry out innovative research projects;
  • obtain grants and contracts aimed at training highly qualified personnel through research;

  • collaborate with research specialists from other Polytechnique research groups or other institutions;
  • participate in functions of service to the academic and professional community, and to society;
  • contribute to the influence of Polytechnique Montréal in Quebec and internationally.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Those interested in applying must have a doctorate in computer engineering, software engineering, computer science or a related field. They should preferably have a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Industrial experience is an important asset.

Applicants must have a research record demonstrating their ability to develop and conduct an independent research program, allowing them to obtain funding to supervise graduate students.

Successful candidates will have to demonstrate excellent teaching skills, if possible evidenced by teaching evaluations. They should teach undergraduate courses and contribute to the development of the department’s graduate course offerings.

They must make a positive contribution to the department’s collegial work environment and adhere to Polytechnique’s values ​​of collaboration, creativity, excellence, integrity, openness and respect.

Candidates must be registered with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) as an engineer, or take the necessary measures to become one before submitting the tenure file. As the language of instruction is French, those selected must have a sufficient command of the spoken and written French language before submitting the tenure file. Polytechnique Montréal will provide the necessary help and support to the person selected for the position for registration on the OIQ roll as well as for learning French.
