Fully-Funded PhD Assistantship in Modern English Literature (1800-1950)

Applications are invited for a funded PhD Assistantship in the English Department at the University of Geneva. The successful candidate will produce a PhD thesis under the supervision of Professor Simon Swift, teach advanced seminars in Modern English Literature and give classes in Textual Analysis to first year students. The post is initially at 70% for two years, and is then renewable twice at 100% to cover 5 years in all. The start date is 1 September 2023. Applications in Romantic literature are especially welcome.

Person Specification

  • An MA (or equivalent qualification) in Romantic and/ or Modern English Literature and/or Theory completed by the start date
  • Desire and potential to teach undergraduate students
  • Fluent knowledge of French is not a requirement for the position

Salary

The starting salary is CHF 47,375 per year (= currently ca. £42,000/EUR 48,000/$52,000)

NB: tuition fees are CHF 565 in the first and last years, and CHF 130 in the 2nd and 3rd years.
