Two postdoctoral fellowships in statistics are currently available in the Stochastic Processes and Applied Statistics research group (stochproc.kaust.edu.sa), lead by prof. David Bolin, at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).
The research area of the positions is statistical models based on stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) and their applications in spatio-temporal statistics. Possible research topics include: Construction of non-Gaussian models and the analysis of their properties; Numerical discretization methods of SPDEs and their use for computationally efficient statistical inference; Multivariate random fields; Spatio-temporal models; Random fields on manifolds and graphs; Applications in medical imaging and environmental sciences.
The positions come with a very competitive tax-free salary as well as free housing and free health insurance. The starting date is flexible, and the postdoctoral appointments are renewable annually for up to three years.
Expertise in two or more of the following areas is necessary: Stochastic partial differential equations; Numerical solutions of PDEs and SDEs; Spatial and spatio-temporal statistics; Stochastic processes; Numerical optimization, Uncertainty quantification; Scientific programming.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in Statistics or in a field relevant to the topics above, as well as excellent communication skills in English and high-level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team at national and international conferences. The candidate will be expected to work in a collaborative research environment with PhD and MS students within the group.
KAUST is an international, graduate research university dedicated to advancing science and technology through interdisciplinary research, education, and innovation. Located in Saudi Arabia, on the shores of the Red Sea, KAUST offers superb research facilities together with unmatched living conditions for individuals and families. The stochastic processes and applied statistics research group was created in 2019 within statistics (stat.kaust.edu.sa) and the Computer, Electrical, and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Division.
The application should include:
- Single Page Cover letter including a description of research experience and research interests
- CV including list of publications
- Copy of official academic transcripts
- Names and contact information for two references
