The Department of Emergency Medicine at McGill University invites applications for a full-time position as a contract academic staff member at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This is a three-year renewable position that does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The Jewish General Hospital is one of McGill’s premier teaching hospitals, affiliated with the internationally renowned Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

The Jewish General Hospital receives more than 90,000 visits per year, is one of the busiest adult emergency departments in Quebec, with high acuity for various pathologies, and is a center of excellence in ultrasound service (POCUS). As such, we are responsible for supervising medical students and residents in the CCFP-MU and FRCP emergency medicine training programs, as well as off-duty family medicine residents. We are very involved in the academic and medico-administrative world.

Duties
In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will provide quality clinical teaching and supervision of medical students and undergraduate residents.

The successful candidate will be an integrated member of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Educational Team (POCUS), supervising learners in basic and advanced point-of-care ultrasound applications and conducting research original clinics.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have a medical degree and must have completed specialty training in emergency medicine;
  • Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the College of Physicians of Quebec;
  • Applicants should have specialist knowledge of advanced point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), through postgraduate training (or equivalent);
  • With an emphasis on innovation, candidates with additional knowledge and experience in computer engineering and/or information technology will be given priority;
  • Candidates should preferably be bilingual (French and English) or commit to acquiring the language skills necessary to practice medicine in Quebec. They must be able to communicate in English and French with patients, families and healthcare professionals.
