Professor position in groundwater hydrology

  • The Division of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Engineering (BESE) of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), in collaboration with the Center for Desalination and Reuse of Water, invites candidates to apply for a professorship in groundwater hydrology.

    The successful candidate will lead an advanced research program aimed at solving critical management problems in the region’s groundwater systems, as well as exploring research opportunities relevant to the water, petroleum and some gas.

    Applications are sought from a wide range of specializations. Applicants with expertise in the storage and recovery of aquifers, characterization of the subsurface and assessment of resources, flow and transport of groundwater, or engineering of groundwater and underground systems are particularly encouraged to apply. Interdisciplinary training in geophysics, hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry or geostatistics will be considered favorably. Previous experience in groundwater management in regions where water is scarce is an advantage, as are additional skills in numerical modeling, measurement at laboratory scale or in the field and in hydraulics and water engineering underground.

Lecturer / Lecturer in bioengineering

    The Center for Desert Agriculture (CDA) of King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) accepts applications for several professorships (open rank) in the vast field of agroecosystem biology (AgEB). The central premise of AgEB is to treat agriculture as an integrated biological system (more than just individual parts), reinforced by big data – omic, phenomenal, computational biology and multifaceted expertise – including various researchers who integrate and employ fundamental knowledge of plants, microbiomes, soils, ecology, evolution and resilience of ecosystems to innovate in sustainable practices in a rapidly changing environment. To this end, we are looking for talent, creative and collaborative colleagues who will use AgEB approaches to address fundamental and applied questions aimed at the development of sustainable cropping systems in extreme environments. All areas of plant and microbial biology will be taken into account. (e.g. physiology, biochemistry, genetics, plant breeding, evolution, ecology, ecosystem science, soil science, computer science and modeling)Basic qualifications  : doctorate with 2-3 years of postdoctoral training.
