Posted 3 years ago

Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry PAS invites applications for an Assistant Professor Position in the “Surface Nanostructures” group.

The candidates who meet the conditions stated in the act “Ustawa o Polskiej Akademii Nauk”

dated 30 April 2010 (Dz.U. 2019 poz. 1183 z póź. zm.), art 89. ust 2 for the position of Assistant Professor are encouraged to apply for the position.

The candidate will participate in the study of structural, electronic and magnetic properties of surfaces and nanostructures carried out under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions using microscopic and spectroscopic techniques and synchrotron radiation.

Research will include:

  • epitaxial metal oxides and their phase transformations,
  • oxide-metal nanostructures for spintronic applications,
  • metallic and oxide nanoparticles on monocrystalline substrates.

The assistant professor will be responsible for:

  • preparation of nanostructures by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE),
  • preparation of monocrystalline surfaces for microscopic and spectroscopic studies,
  • surface and nanostructure studies using low energy electron microscope / photoemission electron microscope (LEEM / PEEM), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) and synchrotron methods,
  • adsorption studies by temperature programmed desorption (TPD),
  • analysis of the correlation between the structure, morphology and composition of the surface nanostructures and their magnetic and chemical properties,
  • writing scientific papers,
  • preparation of grant applications that will provide support funding for the conducted research.

  • The brutto salary will be 4680 PLN/month or higher depending on the Candidate’s experience.

Eligibility criteria

  • Experience in conducting research of single crystal surfaces and epitaxial layers under ultra-high vacuum confirmed by publications from the JCR list,
  • Experience in surface characterization using LEEM / PEEM electron microscopy and synchrotron methods confirmed by publications from the JCR list,
  • Experience in adsorption studies by TPD confirmed by publications from the JCR list,
  • Scientific stay(s) in institutions other than where PhD studies were done – 6 months minimum.

Selection process

  • Applications should be sent in electronic form to:, with the message subject “Assistant professor – Surface Nanostructures KSN 2/2020”
  • Deadline for applications: 20.04.2020 at 3:00 pm CEST. The competition will be settled by 15th of May 2020. The candidates will be notified of the results.
