Junior Professor of Business & Information Systems Engineering and Networked Energy Storage Systems (salary grade: W1) with tenure track to W3

to commence as soon as possible as a fixed-term civil service position.

We are looking for a scholar with promising international potential in energy informatics research. He or she should complement the existing focal points in business & information systems engineering and develop new strategies for application in and for the management of sustainable, complex energy systems. The willingness and ability to acquire third-party funding, including in coordinated programmes, must be evident. The successful applicant will be expected to play an active role in the newly founded Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology (BayBatt).

The research focus of the candidate should have relevance for the development and use of electrical energy storage systems and lie in at least one of the following areas, with the potential for a second:

  • Scalable and self-organizing distributed systems for the integration, monitoring, and control of electrical storage systems
  • AI-supported methods of energy management of storage systems in buildings and grids
  • Quantitative modelling and economic operation management of complex energy storage systems
  • Information Technology (IT) and Operation Technology (OT) of battery systems
  • Virtual representation of complex energy systems (digital twin) based on models and field data
  • Application of secure information and communication technology for smart homes, micro-grids, and energy information networks
  • Corresponding topics in energy management, energy informatics, or energy information systems research

In teaching, the junior professor will be expected to play a pivotal role in the interdisciplinary master’s programmes Battery Technology and Battery Materials & Technology, and in particular to contribute aspects of business & information systems engineering. The willingness to contribute to the bachelor’s and other master’s programmes in business & information systems engineering, which are currently being developed, is a prerequisite. The ability to teach in German and English is also expected.

In addition to the general legal requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, proven excellence in teaching, and the ability to carry out scholarly research (generally demonstrated by the quality of the applicant’s doctoral research). Since the completion of the doctorate (date of the doctoral certificate), no more than four years should have passed (Art. 63 para 1 s. 5 BayHIG). The requirements given in the university’s Bayreuth Track Regulations also apply.
