Within the BMTF project, the research project will be focused on the development of spatio-temporal models variations on infectious diseases transmission and control and its impact on the Basque surveillance system; Modeling different social contact structures to understand disease spreading; Modeling the role of social behavioral changes, lock downs and other control measures affecting the dynamics of seasonal respiratory disease.

Salary and conditions: The gross annual salary of the Fellowship will be 28.000 – 34.000€ according to experience. 

It will then be on your own responsibility to make your yearly income declaration at the Bizkaia Treasury Agency. T

here is a moving allowance for those researchers that come from a research institution outside the Basque Country up to EUR 2.000 gross and a family allowance up to EUR 2.000.

Free access to the Public Health System in Spain is provided to all employees.

Scientific Profile Requested


  • We seek an experienced postdoctoral fellow, highly motivated and skilled person, able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Applicants must have professional experience, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area of modeling infectious disease dynamics.
  • PhD degree in applied mathematics, mathematical biology, physics or related disciplines on quantitative life sciences field.

Skills and track-record:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to communicate and present research ideas to researchers with different background and general public.
  • Ability to clearly present and publish research outcomes in spoken (talks) and written (papers) form.
  • Programming in LaTeX. Programming in C, MatLab or R
  • Experience in organizing scientific events (workshops, seminars, etc.).

Scientific Profile:

The preferred candidate will have:

  • research experience in modeling COVID-19 and other respiratory disease dynamics.
  • researh experience in network theory.
  • research experience in stochastic processes.
  • research interest in mathematical modeling of infectious diseases and population biology, dynamical systems theory, non-linear dynamics complex systems and computer programming.
  • strong background in statistics is advantageous.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research, formulation and analysis of mathematical/computational models.
  • knowledge of bio-statistics and experience in advanced programming are essential.

Evaluation: Based on the provided application documents of each candidate, the evaluation committee will evaluate qualitatively: the adaption of the previous training and career to the profile offered, the recommendation letters, the main results achieved (papers, proceedings, etc.), the statement of past and proposed future research and other merits; taking in account the alignment of these items to the topic offered.

Incorporation November 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The BCAM postdoctoral contract will start when the selected candidate has finished the PhD, i.e. after dissertation defence.
