Nominations for the Hansen Leadership Institute are now open

This summer scholarship is an opportunity for international and US students to gain leadership skills and cultural understanding to help shape a more peaceful future. Fellows receive hands-on training on team building, public speaking, negotiation, mediation and collaboration to solve international problems. Leadership training includes meetings with political and business leaders to learn real-world skills and how to implement these skills at home after the program. The program is located in San Diego, California, and is open to international and US undergraduate and master students aged 20 to 25 years.

Ten three-week institutes were held in San Diego, California in July 2007 to 2019. This program provided leadership experience and a unique university program in international cooperation. Once again in July 2020, American men and women will join students from various developing countries and regions of social conflict to learn from experts and each other about conflict resolution and social entrepreneurship. To date, 194 Hansen alumni from 61 countries have been in touch, providing a support network and working together on a number of social projects funded by the Hansen Foundation.

A primary goal of the program is to create an international community of young researchers who will use their summer experience as a foundation for creating lasting friendships and a common practical understanding of a more peaceful future. Fellows receive hands-on training on team building, public speaking, negotiation, mediation and collaboration to solve international problems. In addition, they learn to listen actively and to seek common interests and to build realistic bridges of cooperation. Classroom training complements local excursions to San Diego attractions such as Sea World, the Zoo, the July 4th Parade and the Cruise Port. Fellows meet and greet university leaders, and business to refine their own ideas and skills while discovering the “American Way of Life”. Students leave San Diego with a “Leadership Toolkit” that they can apply appropriately to their future challenges and efforts. Participants came from all corners of the globe, made lifelong friendships and shaped their futures in a more positive direction. Why not you
