About the Position:
The Department of Biology at Carleton University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor. Qualified applicants are expected to have an exceptional record of research accomplishment within the discipline of Conservation Science. The successful applicant will be expected to teach core undergraduate courses in the Biology program in the realm of conservation science, and interact with scholars and learners in other related units such as Environmental Science and Geography. This position will augment existing teaching and research strengths within the Department of Biology, and provide research leadership on evidence-based approaches to conservation decisions, policy, and practice.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and demonstrated excellence and commitment to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate- and graduate-level students. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program in conservation science. Research topics of particular interest include but are not limited to landscape ecology, quantitative approaches, restoration, risk assessment, sustainability science, and conservation decisions and solutions. Applicants with the ability to forge collaborations with members of the Department of Biology and relevant faculty across the university, as well as with allied agencies, will be given preference. Successful candidates will have an established track record of engaging with diverse partners and delivering science that informs environmental policy and practice.

About the Academic Unit:
The Department of Biology is a teaching and research unit with close connections to a variety of other units including the Institute of Environmental and Interdisciplinary Science and the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. This position will also provide opportunities to work directly with researchers at the National Wildlife Research Centre of Environment and Climate Change Canada, which is located on campus. Moreover, the Department of Biology is a member of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Biology that links scholars at Carleton and the University of Ottawa. The curriculum in the Department of Biology is innovative and involves opportunities for students to gain understanding of, and participate in solving, real-world problems through field courses and research experiences.
