The Institute for Strategy, at the Royal Danish Defence College, invites applications for assistant professorship / associate professorship in Military Strategy and Political Science in Copenhagen beginning by August 1, 2020 or soon thereafter.
The Institute for Strategy offers a number of courses on diploma and master level. It is a key provider of independent research on strategy and security policy of relevancy to the Danish Defence Force.
Currently, the institute employs 21 people conducting research and teaching in numerous subfields within the overall disciplines of military strategy and political science.
The Institute for Strategy is dedicated to foster a stimulating and inspiring environment for both faculty members and students. We aim to establish and maintain international research network and to increase our ability to attract external research funding.
The successful applicant for an associate professorship will be expected to:
- Conduct teaching, supervision, and administration within the centre’s portfolio of study programmes.
- Conduct and publish research at a high international level.
- Provide advice and counselling for the Danish armed forces.
To qualify for the position as an associate professor, applicants must have research qualifications and interests within military studies and/or strategic studies. We encourage theoretical diversity but place an emphasis on research contributing to key scholarly debates related to the centre’s research profile. Moreover, our research must be of relevance to the Danish armed forces and our various study programmes.
Applicants for an associate professorship are expected to have a well-documented high- quality international research profile with emphasis on innovative research contributions in peer-reviewed publications. Applicants must in addition demonstrate an ability to contribute to the development of an advanced and ambitious research environment and, as part hereof, demonstrate that they are embedded in relevant international research networks.
The applicants’ teaching qualifications are important. An associate professor is expected to conscientiously and systematically work with the connection between academic content and applied forms of teaching and evaluation. Moreover, an associate professor is expected to continually develop his or her teaching skills and contribute to the further development of specific subjects and the study programmes at the defence college.
The successful applicant for an assistant professorship will be expected to:
- Conduct teaching, supervision, and administration within the centre’s portfolio of study programmes, but primarily within the master programme in military studies.
- Conduct and publish research at an international level.
- Provide advice and counselling for the Danish armed forces.
To qualify for the position as an assistant professor, applicants must have research qualifications and interests within military studies and/or strategic studies. We encourage theoretical diversity but place an emphasis on research contributing to key scholarly debates related to the centre’s research profile and research must be relevant to the Danish armed forces and our various study programmes.
Applicants for an assistant professorship are expected to have a relevant PhD degree within strategic studies or political science. We also invite applications from scholars who have almost completed their PhD. Applicants must demonstrate an ability for innovative thinking and a good understanding of key scholarly debates within the fields of military studies and/or strategic studies.
Applicants able to communicate, in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish will be preferred.
