Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?

We are an enthusiastic, and dynamic research group performing cutting-edge research in the field of skeletal biology, exploring the most exciting questions related to the skeleton, from dinosaurs to stem cells and from development to tissue engineering. Join us for science and fun.

We are working on different aspects of cartilage and bone biology but most of the ongoing projects are focused on the regulation of stem cells in cartilage and bone, their stem cell niches, and their changes with age, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis. The diversity of our previous research can be grasped from Xie M et al., eLife 2020, Xie M et al., PNAS 2019, Newton PT et al., Nature 2019, or at our laboratory website chaginlab dot com.  Our laboratory is uniquely positioned between the Centre for Bone and Arthritis Research (CBAR) and the Department of Rheumatology at the University of Gothenburg. This position facilitates very enriched interactions and collaborations with advanced clinical osteoporosis research ongoing at CBAR and extensive inflammatory joint research ongoing at the Department of Rheumatology.  We have easy access to all top-notch research facilities, including an animal house, advanced microscopy, FACS, single-cell sequencing facility, and many more. An inspiring scientific environment, an extensive network of local and international collaborations, and access to state-of-the-art facilities allow us to perform research projects at the highest scientific standard.

The University of Gothenburg is a large university with 53000 students and 7000 staff members. The medical faculty is spatially merged with Sahlgrenska University Hospital forming a large cluster of biomedical research in the heart of the city. Gothenburg is a second-large city in Sweden, located at the gorgeous archipelago of the North Sea. Fantastic nature, beautiful sea, and a middle-size city, which offers all the infrastructure needed for the replete lifestyle but lacks all the troubles of large megapolises, all together form a lovely atmosphere for science and life.  English language is the second official language in the university whereas in everyday life most Swedes easily communicate in English. This creates comfortable living conditions within and outside the institution.

Duties

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to drive scientific projects, learn the methods in the lab as well as independently establish new techniques and technology, and coordinate ongoing collaborations both within and outside the team. He or she should be able to plan, perform, analyze, and document experiments and communicate the results both within the department and to the greater research community, i.e., present your data in conferences. The successful candidate will characterize skeletal stem cells in mouse and human bones, their hormonal and paracrine regulation, and explore the composition of their niches. In our research, we utilize advanced techniques including clonal lineage tracing, single-cell RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, tissue clearing, and light-sheet microscopy. The candidate will be initially guided to master the techniques needed for the project.

Entry requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and efficient researcher with a high interest in skeletal biology, stem cells, and regeneration.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in biomedicine/medicine/biophysics obtained within the last 2 years.
  • An ability to communicate in English in written and oral.
  • High level of motivation, commitment, and creativity.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A motivation letter
  • A complete curriculum vitae, including the date of the thesis defense, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
