The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Scarborough Health Network (SHN), in partnership with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto, is seeking to recruit a qualified full-time MATERNAL FETAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST. The successful candidate would fulfil the academic position description of Clinician Investigator and must be eligible for academic appointment at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is April 1, 2020 (or a mutually agreed upon date).

Across three hospitals and eight satellite sites, Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is shaping the future of care. Our many programs and services are designed around the needs of one of Canada’s most vibrant and diverse communities. We are home to North America’s largest nephrology program, as well as the designated cardiac care and spine centre for Scarborough and surrounding communities to the east. We are proud to be a community-affiliated teaching site for the University of Toronto and partner with a number of other universities and colleges, helping to train the next generation of health care professionals.

Hospital wide there are more than 6,000 deliveries per year. NICUs are level IIc at the Centenary and General hospital sites. A team of obstetrician-gynaecologists, family physicians and midwives, along with highly trained nurses and the allied health team, provide comprehensive antenatal care for women and families in the Scarborough community.

The successful candidate would participate fully in the clinical activities of the Program at SHN, including the obstetrical call schedule and teaching program. The successful candidate will be working with a strong, supportive, collegial and multidisciplinary group including obstetricians, family physicians, midwives, endocrinologists and genetic counsellors. Expectations would be for the candidate to have advanced ultrasound skills (including ultrasound assessment of placental function, fetal anatomy and fetal well-being) and an interest in maternal disease state predictive modelling. Patient information software includes Astraia and Intellispace Perinatal.

The University of Toronto is a leader in Maternal Fetal Medicine, with one of the largest programs and services in Canada. It is affiliated with several teaching hospitals as well as a number of research institutes. The Division of MFM supports a large Fetal Ultrasound, Prenatal Diagnosis Program, Fetal Therapy Program, Placenta Program, Prevention of Prematurity Program and Medical Disorders of Pregnancy Program. The Division services a population catchment area in excess of 6.5 million people.

Desirable qualities in the successful candidate could include master’s level or higher graduate training in an area such as clinical epidemiology, quality improvement/patient safety, knowledge translation or related topic. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in general Maternal Fetal Medicine activities such as inpatient management of high-risk transfers, MFM on-call duties and fetal ultrasound. The candidate will be expected to focus his/her clinical, research and educational activity in Maternal Fetal Medicine and participate in collaborative quality improvement and research projects between the two hospital sites. The successful candidate will have an academic appointment at the University of Toronto commensurate with their level of experience.

Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the RCPSC in Maternal Fetal Medicine and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario. Desirable candidates will possess ultrasound certification such as ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) or FMF UK (Fetal Medicine Foundation UK) in both general fetal ultrasound and first trimester nuchal translucency (NT) assessments. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher depending upon their qualifications and experience.
