Using expert knowledge of low temperature, ultra high vacuum, atom-resolving, scanning tunneling microscopy and atomic force microscopy, the Research Associate will extend our current knowledge of atom-scale devices built on the semiconductor surfaces. All activities will take place in consultation with and under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI).
Duties
- Designs and conducts experiments related to the STM/AFM analyses of silicon and/or titanium dioxide surfaces
- Conducts field ion microscopy experiments
- Performs complete analysis of the results and prepares presentations; reports and publishes papers on the findings
- Contributes to setting research directions and assist in establishing research methods, data evaluation protocols and standards
- Provides internal reports and makes recommendations to the PI
Qualifications
- PhD in Physics or Chemical Physics or equivalent

Minimum 4 years of relevant research experience after receiving their PhD in low temperature, ultra high vacuum, atom-resolving, scanning tunneling microscopy and atomic force microscopy as demonstrated by their publication record
- Publication record of atom resolving NC-AFM experiments on silicon
- Publication record of NC-AFM experiments on titanium dioxide
- Experience with FIM/FEM techniques to fabricate ultra-sharp metallic (e.g. tungsten) tips
- Experience with AFM studies of graphene
In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has a term of one year, with the possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary range of $58,210 to $72,770.
