Advancement Fellowship for non-clinical or clinical scientists

Full Time :

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £44,737 – £52,764 Per annum or Jr Dr Scale £42,678 – £56,288 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

We are inviting applications for an Advancement Fellowship that is jointly funded by the Rosetrees Trust and the Pears Foundation.

The fellowship will support the career development of a researcher whose research plans align with the strategic priorities of the Institute of Immunity and Transplantation (IIT) and the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFLNFT). The IIT delivers translational immunology research to uncover immunological mechanisms of disease, with the goal to improve diagnosis, prognosis and treatment for patients.

The three major research priority areas at the IIT are:

Enhancement of immunity in infection and cancer.

Establishment of tolerance in patients with autoimmunity and after organ transplantation.

Stem cell and gene therapy of inherited immune defects.

The successful candidate must carry out innovative research and within the first 2.5 years, apply for external funding (e.g., fellowship) to enable them to progress towards an independent research career (e.g. Wellcome Sir Henry Dale, MRC Career Development Award etc).

The recipient of this fellowship will be based in the new Pears Building, which provides offices, laboratory space and high-quality research core facilities.

The position will be for 3 years in the first instance.

Candidates should have a PhD in Immunology or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research. We will consider applicants from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds. Applicants must have the support of a principal investigator at the Institute of Immunity and Transplantation and must have their own original research ideas. Candidates will be evaluated on their academic track record, including evidence of independent achievements and recognition appropriate to their career stage and the excellence and complementarity of their research proposal with the IIT portfolio of research.

Note: Clinical applicants will be appointed at an equivalent Clinical Grade or Junior Doctors Pay Scale. Please note that consultant salaries will not be covered by this programme over the course of the fellowship and clinicians will be expected to complete the fellowship prior to taking a consultant level post.
