Harvard Academy $ 70,000 Scholarships, USA

This program is open to all recent doctoral and doctoral students in social sciences or law.

The Academy Scholars Program identifies and supports outstanding scholars early in their careers whose work combines disciplinary excellence in social science or law with a mastery of the language and history or culture of countries or regions in outside of the United States or Canada. Their scholarship can elucidate national, comparative or transnational problems, past or present.

Academy Scholars are a select community of individuals with resourcefulness, initiative, curiosity and originality, whose work in cultures or regions outside of the United States or Canada holds promise as a foundation for exceptional careers in major universities or international institutions.

Academy Fellows are nominated for a two-year residency postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. They receive substantial financial and research assistance to undertake supported research projects and / or acquire ancillary training in the fields and fields of their choice. Senior Scholars, a distinguished group of senior Harvard University professors, act as mentors to Academy Scholars to help them realize their intellectual potential.

Eligibility

medjouel.com informs you that the competition for these prizes is open only to recent holders of a doctorate (or a diploma from a comparable professional school) and to doctoral candidates in social sciences or law.

Those still pursuing a doctorate must have completed their routine training and be well advanced in writing their theses before applying to become Academy scholars. If you have completed a doctoral program, the doctoral completion date must be within three years of the October 1 application deadline. For applicants applying for the deadline of October 1, 2021, you must have completed your doctorate or equivalent  after  September 30, 2018.

The selection committee examines all candidates from the same pool of candidates.

terms

Each year, four to six Academy scholars are appointed for two-year terms. Academy Fellows must reside in the Cambridge / Boston area for the duration of their tenure, unless traveling for pre-approved research purposes.

Academy postdoctoral fellows will receive an annual stipend of  $ 70,000  . If selected prior to obtaining the doctorate, fellows will receive an annual stipend of  $ 35,000  until obtaining the doctorate. This allowance is supplemented by funding for conference and research travel, research assistants and health insurance coverage. Certain lessons are authorized but not compulsory.

Applications from qualified people are welcome, regardless of nationality, sex or race.

How to register

All application documents must be submitted by the October 1 deadline   . We do not accept late applications.

The completed file will include:

  1. Cover letter briefly indicating the candidate’s academic field, country or region of specialization and the proposed research topic
  2. Curriculum vitae (CV) or curriculum vitae; including the list of publications
  3. Research proposal (2500 words maximum); comprising intellectual objectives and planned methodological and disciplinary work
  4. A copy of your doctoral transcript
  5. Three letters of recommendation (uploaded via the online app)

Letters should be addressed to the “  Selection Committee  ”.
Letters of recommendation must be uploaded by the October 1 deadline   .

All parts of the application, including the three letters of recommendation, are submitted online as pdf documents. The online application is accessible through the home page of the Harvard Academy website. To access the application, click on the APPLY ONLINE button.

You can include footnotes, endnotes and / or bibliographies in your proposed research statement, but they are not required. If you provide references, they will not count towards the 2,500 word maximum for the research statement.

We do not require copies of articles or abstracts published as part of our application process. Do not include them in your request.

Regarding transcripts from foreign universities:  our examiners read many applications from foreign universities and request as many official documents such as transcripts that the registrar of your university can provide, for all graduate work, for both master’s and doctoral programs in which you have been or are currently enrolled. Your institution probably receives these requests often and can provide you with the required documents upon request.
