About us

The School of Psychology has a thriving research culture. Our academic staff and large cohort of PhD students are involved in world-class work in affective, behavioural and cognitive neuroscience; mental health; physical activity and well-being; and cancer prevention.
The School has excellence and innovation in teaching and research, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in psychology. Our psychology courses were first taught in 1964, and the school was founded in 2001. Today, with approximately 70 full-time academic staff, we are committed to providing a rewarding and relevant learning experience for our students.

Psychology at Curtin received a 5 Star rating for teaching quality, learning resources, student support and skills development in the 2019 Good Universities Guide, and retained its 5 Star rating for learner engagement. Curtin’s Psychology course also ranks in the top 200 by subject worldwide according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020.

The school is committed to providing a rewarding and relevant learning and teaching experience, running both an adult psychology clinic and a child psychology clinic on campus where you can practice the skills you have learned. You can also gain experience in the student-led clinics in nearby Cockburn that offer provisional counselling psychology services.

The Head of School role is an outstanding opportunity for an inspirational leader to inspire excellence and continuous improvement in research and innovation, learning and teaching, engagement and impact within the school. You will bring to the role

Demonstrated passion and vision to engage academic and non-academic colleagues, students and industry partners in a long-term strategy focussed on outcomes and excellence aligned with the Faculty and the school.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Health Sciences you will provide strong strategic and operational leadership and management to oversee the delivery of innovative teaching and world-class research that fosters collaboration both within the school and across the University. You will have clear strategies to grow Curtin’s domestic and international standing while fostering deep relationships with relevant government, business, professional bodies and the wider community. You will lead by example, having an outstanding personal research track record and international profile.

You will exemplify and promote Curtin’s values of Integrity, Respect, Courage, Excellence and Impact, and you will encourage and promote these values in others to foster a collegial and inclusive culture.
