The Department of Surgery at McGill University, the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), the Division of Radiation Oncology at the MUHC and the Division of Medical Oncology at the MUHC are seeking a Basic Scientist with research expertise in sarcoma. The successful candidate will be appointed to a Contract Academic Staff position at the Assistant Professor level. This position does not confer eligibility for tenure. Salary and rank will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Divisions and Departments are situated in a vibrant research, clinical, and training environment that is currently expanding its basic sciences research activities and diversifying its programs. The McGill University Health Centre is the sole institution in Quebec recognized as a supra-regional sarcoma center by the Quebec Cancer Program. Providing care for both adult and pediatric populations, the McGill University Health Centre houses a multidisciplinary team of physicians, paramedical specialists, and research assistants.
Job Duties
The desired candidate will possess a strong background in cancer basic research with a focus on tumor immune microenvironment and metabolism. Strong interpersonal skills, collegiality and the ability to lead and motivate teams are also highly sought skills for this role.
The primary activities of the successful candidate will involve initiating a competitive, independently funded sarcoma research program that will integrate and synergize with the already existing sarcoma basic research teams as well as to foster collaborations between researchers of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre Oncology group and clinicians of the sarcoma team. The successful applicant will be involved in teaching activities within the division/department, including lecturing and the supervision of both undergraduate and post-graduate students, and residents. The successful candidate is expected to develop his or her own independent research career and to be successful in obtaining grants in support of his or her research and salary. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in these activities.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
The candidate must hold a PhD (or equivalent degree) with additional post-doctoral training. Special consideration will be given to candidates with previous experience in sarcoma research. The candidate must demonstrate an established scientific track record, as evidenced by grants, publications, abstracts, as well as peer-reviewed and invited presentations in scientific meetings in the field of sarcoma, whether bone or soft tissue. The position will be based within the newly opened Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre at the Glen site.
