Position Description

The Departments of Cardiac Sciences and Medicine, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute invite applications for a tenure-track academic position at the Assistant Professor level.

This will be an appointment for an outstanding Cardiologist to lead a program in Cardiovascular research within a multidisciplinary research environment.  The successful candidate will have 75% protected time for academic research.  Academic opportunities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  This is an excellent opportunity for an independent researcher who wishes to collaborate with a productive, multidisciplinary group of clinical and basic investigators.  Start-up funds can be made available and commensurate with the research track record of the candidate.

Qualifications include an MD with certification in Cardiology.  The successful candidate will be an investigator with a proven record of excellence and leadership in research and education in the cardiovascular field.  Eligibility for licensure in cardiology in the Province of Alberta is required. Priority will be given to those with the potential to develop precision medicine platforms with a focus on cardiovascular genetics, molecular biology and stem cell models of human disease.  Preference will be given to clinician scientists with a PhD and basic/translational science focus to their research.  The successful candidate must have potential for, or a record of, accomplishment in research including a sufficient record of research publication in high-impact peer reviewed journals as well as appropriate success with research operating grants or salary awards. The candidate must also be a proficient clinician with experience in a collegial multi-physician subspecialty practice.

The successful candidate will be part of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta. Current membership includes over 150 principal investigators and their research teams with a broad range of interests in Cardiovascular Medicine. The Institute is housed within the Cumming School of Medicine. The candidate will participate in the Department of Medicine and Cardiology Academic Medicine and Health Services Program, which provides competitive salary support.
