The Associate Director, Electrical provides leadership to administrative and professional, technical and trades personnel. The position is responsible for the maintenance and operations of physical plant associated with all the electrical systems for the University’s Burnaby Mountain campus, and in addition provides support for the Vancouver and Surrey campuses as required. The role develops and implements annual plans and programs to meet the needs of both annual maintenance and operations and deferred maintenance requirements; develops and manages the annual operating budget and capital project budgets; and supervises the execution and administration of plans, programs, and associated budgets. The position leads the preparation of design standards for use in all electrical work undertaken by Facilities Services (FS) and external contractors, and provides direction advice and guidance on the maintenance and operational requirements for all new facilities. The Associate Director contributes to the development of campus design and building standards and requirements; supports campus life safety and security and builds strong collaborative relationships with counterparts at the Vancouver and Surrey campuses in support of achieving and maintaining consistent levels of service between departments and across the university
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng) with eight years related experience, including experience managing electrical divisions in a large, unionized environment/facility and providing financial, staff, and capital project leadership; experience in the application & interpretation of Collective Agreements or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Superior knowledge of building electrical systems and electrical equipment.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of energy and sustainability techniques.
- Excellent knowledge of BC Electrical Code and National Fire Code.
- Good knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal codes, regulations and acts.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to conduct project analysis and risk assessment in order to develop the business case for proposed projects.
