Carolina Foundation : DOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND POSTDOCTORAL SHORT STAYS

The  doctoral scholarships  are aimed at promoting the obtaining of the academic degree of doctor among the professors of the Latin American universities associated with the FC, while the objective of the short postdoctoral stays scholarships is to complete the postdoctoral training of the professors of these centers and facilitate the establishment of academic networks between Spain and America.

Both types of scholarships are based on a co-financing regime, established in bilateral educational cooperation agreements, fundamentally inspired by the principle of equal opportunities.

The general framework of the co-financing system contemplates that 60% of the total cost of the scholarship is covered by the Carolina Foundation and the remaining 40% by the university or institution in Latin America.

In a program like this, aimed at promoting the doctorate exclusively within the higher education system in Latin America, the co-financing system is very beneficial. The most appreciable advantage that this program provides is that it makes Latin American universities co-participants in these scholarships so that these teachers, once they reach the doctorate degree, return to their universities of origin which, in short, are the economic co-responsible for their training. .

To achieve the aforementioned objectives, FC negotiates the signing of  agreements with universities or government bodies  that bring together all the universities in the same country or, at least, all those that are considered public. This last formula ensures the publication of national calls in those countries where it is possible to sign this type of agreement, thus making this program accessible to any Latin American teacher.

Spanish university solidarity : most of the Spanish public universities exempt from the payment of the fees of the program leading to the academic degree of doctor and some even participate in the monthly maintenance of the scholarship holders. This implication supposes a decrease in the contribution that corresponds to the Latin American university and the Carolina Foundation.
