Software Engineering – Assistant Professor

The Department of Software Engineering at Lakehead University invites applications for one (1) tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is at the Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, Thunder Bay, Ontario.  The position will commence on August 1, 2020.

While the Department encourages all eligible applicants with an earned PhD or close to completion by August 1, 2020 in Software Engineering or closely related disciplines to apply for these positions, its needs, in research, are in areas of Software Engineering such as service-oriented computing, cyber-physical and Internet of Things (IoT), cloud and distributed systems, big data software, applied artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Relevant industrial and practical experience will be an asset.

The Department offers a unique accredited Bachelor of Engineering program. In addition, the Department, in conjunction with the Department of Electrical Engineering, offers a Masters by thesis, course work and a Ph.D. program.

The successful candidate is expected to teach existing undergraduate and graduate courses, develop new courses, and build a strong research program in the Software Engineering Department, including securing external funding and generating archival publications. Flexibility in undergraduate teaching of a diversity of courses is expected in the program. Service to the department, faculty, and university is expected.

Acquiring Professional Engineering registration in a province of Canada is a mandatory condition for employment in this position.
