The Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant in Contemporary Art (tenure-track position). Applicants should have an outstanding record or potential in scientific research and publications, relevant teaching experience or potential, and a commitment to interdisciplinary research and support from various intellectual communities.
We are looking for candidates whose research adopts a critical approach to contemporary art and whose work demonstrates an excellent mastery of artistic, theoretical and methodological issues related to one or more of the following fields: colonialism, post -colonialism and decolonization; intersectional critiques of racialization and subjectivity; migration, slavery, diasporic studies and global networks; extractivism, ecology and environment. We encourage research and teaching activities rooted in regional expertise but which also focus on the transcultural aspects of the arts and the media. We welcome researchers working from any part of the world and are particularly interested in black and indigenous perspectives.
The successful candidate will teach and supervise students at the three study cycles in their field of expertise, lead thesis and doctoral thesis projects, and contribute to the intellectual life of the university. We prefer that applicants hold a doctoral degree at the time of hiring. The starting date is August 1, 2022.
