Research Engineer at the Cell Culture Laboratory

Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development is a Research Institute within the Łukasiewicz Research Network. It focuses on development of new technologies, resulting from basic and applied research performed at the Institute in the areas of biotechnology and materials engineering. These technologies, in turn, serve as a basis for innovative solutions for the corresponding industries. The Center is located on a historical campus of Pracze in Wroclaw in Southwestern Poland. It currently employs more than 250 scientists and support staff in four Centers: Materials Science and Engineering, Biotechnology, Biomedicine (including state of the art  Biobank), and well-equipped Core Facility.

Research Engineer at the Cell Culture Laboratory

This person will be employed at the Cell Culture Laboratory as part of the NCN GreenAmber project.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Implementation of research tasks related to the project.
  • Independent planning of experiments.
  • Development and interpretation of research results.
  • Keeping research documentation and forwarding research results to a supervisor.
  • Laboratory maintenance.
  • Maintaining the proper technical condition of the research apparatus entrusted.
  • Planning purchases and materials needed for research.

Professional qualifications

  • Minimum university education in the field of biotechnology, life sciences or related fields.
  • Experience in working with microorganisms (bacteria).
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in working with molecular biology techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic techniques for genetic modification of bacteria, including at least theoretical knowledge about “lambda red recombineering”.
  • Knowledge of basic metabolic pathways with a strong focus on succinic acid synthesis.
  • Knowledge of protein analysis techniques (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, chromatographic techniques).
  • Knowledge of protein purification techniques.
  • Knowledge of the use of laboratory bioreactors is welcome.
  • Effective use of time and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of English in speaking and writing, including specialist nomenclature.
