Computer scientist model-driven engineering

JOB DESCRIPTION

You shape the future of model-based systems engineering of high-tech machines and vehicles.

To design the next generation of smart machines and (autonomous) vehicles, specialists from various disciplines (mechanical engineering, software, electronic engineering) need to work together in a highly iterative design process. While customer-centric design becomes more important, time to market remains key. To stay ahead of their competitors, high-tech manufacturing companies need new innovative model-based design processes to support their engineering team.

Create beyond state-of-the-art model-driven systems engineering concepts & tools

For various industrial innovations, you will

  • Work together in a research team that combines expertise in model-driven engineering, computational design synthesis, optimisation techniques & mechatronic design;
  • Play a key role in developing prototype engineering tools.

Together with the team, you will

  • Detect flaws in the current state-of-the-art engineering processes used by the industry to develop high-tech machines and vehicles;
  • Interact with experts in machine design for a thorough functional analysis;
  • Draw model-driven engineering concepts and design innovative solutions to push these engineering processes beyond their limits;
  • Follow-up on academic and industrial research into modelling languages, engineering tools, engineering methods, design space exploration algorithms, frameworks…;
  • Trace and present industrial challenges and new research opportunities.

“When working on a new concept, I enjoy to puzzle out variants of existing tools, making sure they communicate correctly. When the industrial company finally adopts the solution, the data really come to life,” Bart, Software Research Engineer at Flanders Make. Read more
