The Faculty of Arts invites applications for a term certain Sessional Instructor position within the School of Public Policy to teach PPOL 621 – Communicating Public Policy. This appointment will be for the term May 1 – May 31, 2020. The course will be taught in a block course format during the first two weeks of May 2020. Some additional time in the form office hours for students is expected. This is a core course in the Master of Public Policy program and will be taught during day long sessions at the Downtown Campus.
Course Description
Examine all aspects of communication in the context of policy, including the impact of new modes of communication on the development and dissemination of public policy. The new role of blogs, on-line communities, and web-based media at marshalling and influencing public opinion and the changing role of print media are discussed and evaluated. Implications for copyright policies, media concentration, privacy, and advertising are among the issues examined.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D in the social sciences with extensive teaching and research qualifications in the area of Communication Studies. Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence at the upper undergraduate and graduate level is required.
