UF Scripps Biomedical Research is currently seeking to fill multiple Postdoctoral Associate positions for the laboratory of Joe G.N. Garcia, MD., at the Jupiter, Florida campus. The newly created Center for Inflammation Science and Systems Medicine (CISSM) at the University of Florida-Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology, is seeking outstanding applicants for postdoctoral positions to work in multidisciplinary projects related to lung biology and disease. The position will focus on the biophysical and biomechanical mechanisms underpinning vascular integrity and endothelial cell barrier function. Seeking multiple Post-doctoral candidates with 3 – 4 years’ experience. The candidates will work as an integral member of a group with expertise in biophysics, cell biology, biochemistry, animal models, and genetics and proteomics of lung disease.
Job Duties:
Post Doc Position 1: Bioinformatics Job No:525786
Job duties include but are not limited to:
1. RNA and DNA molecular manipulation as extraction from multiple tissues, enrichment/purification. Sample throughput and library preparation for NGS.
2. Biomarker detection in human specimens using ELISA and electrochemiluminescence multiplex detection.
3. Genotypification techniques and gene expression techniques such as RTPCR for mRNA detection quantification.
4. Conduct Bioinformatic analysis of lab assays. pipeline that includes: data manipulation for quality control, de nova assembly mapping and alignment using Cufflink, Cuffmerge, assembly, TopHat, Bowtie, HTSeq-count, DESeq and DESeq2. Experience in using R and RStudio for visualizing data of the (Cuffdiff or DESeq output data for differentially expressed genes.
5. Conduct analysis of genotype/phenotype data association in PLINK.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to design, organize and execute complex experiments.
Post Doc Position 2: AFM Job No:525624
1.Design and conduct research using scanning probe microscopy and a variety of other techniques to study assembly, structure and function of various biological systems.
2. Maintain and establish laboratory protocols.
3. Present formal and informal overviews of research progress at internal meetings.
4. Present research findings at national and international conferences.
5. Publish research in peer-reviewed literature.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience performing mechanical measu,rements using AFM and data analysis. Experience or ability to learn cell culture methods. Experience programming using MatLab, Python, or another programming language. Experience writing publications and publication record in refereed journals. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, as well as in a team environment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work in a collaborative research environment and to document and present research results.
Post Doc Position 3: Job No: 52562
1. Data documentation will be performed in a timely and compliant manner.
2. Compiles, organizes and evaluates data.
3. Present formal and informal overviews of research progress at internal meetings.
4. Maintain laboratory cleanness, equipment, and protocol.
5. Publish research in peer-reviewed literature.
Preferred Qualifications: Broad range and string understanding of all aspects of molecular biology, including plasmid design and biochemical assays and the ability to design, organize and execute complex experiments.
