The Photon Science Department at Stanford University and the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. We are looking for applicants with outstanding achievements and leadership potential in the broad field of Photon Science and Engineering. We encourage applicants from a diverse range of science and engineering disciplines and a wide range of skills to apply. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to:
- Condensed matter physics and materials science and engineering
- Atomic, molecular and chemical sciences
- Structural biology (including dynamics, with x rays and/or electrons)
- Plasma physics and high energy density science
- Energy, environmental and biological sustainability sciences
- Geological sciences
- Instrumentation design and methodology development for photon sciences
- Ultrafast and high-field x-ray and optical science
- Laser, accelerator and beam physics
The Photon Science Faculty at Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory broadly supports the Department of Energy mission with a focus on defining and realizing SLAC’s world-leading scientific research facilities and programs. All SLAC faculty must be supported by defined laboratory programs at SLAC.

This is a 12-month appointment. The expected base pay range for this position is $182,557- $191,675 per annum, based on 12 month salary.
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
Final candidates are subject to background checks before starting work at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Internal candidates who are selected for hire may require degree verification and/or credit checks based on the requirements of the new position.
