We are looking for a highly committed, enthusiastic doctoral candidate for a 3-year position within the EPiC SAD study, that will examine environmental, physiological, and cognitive risk factors for seasonal affective disorder. The hosting University is the University of Akureyri (UNAK) in Northern Iceland. The project will start in late spring 2022 and will be carried out in close collaboration with the University of Iceland (HÍ) in Reykjavík. The doctoral candidate will be registered at the Centre for doctoral studies and will be supervised by Prof. Yvonne Höller, Faculty of Psychology at UNAK, co-supervised by Assoc. Prof. Gísli Kort Kristófersson, Faculty of Health Sciences, and would join the doctoral school at UNAK within the health sciences study line.

The research requires travelling around Iceland in order to record environmental exposure, EEG-data, and psychological self-report questionnaires in a sample of 200 participants in a longitudinal study.

Required skills:

  • A Master degree in neuroscience, health sciences, psychology, or a field that is useful for the project
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Excellent scientific skills such as literature research, scientific writing
  • Excellent organization skills
  • A driving licence in order to be able to travel to remote places with our mobile laboratory equipment
  • Technical affinity in order to be able to deal with exposometers and EEG hard- and software

Desired skills:

  • Experience with EEG recording and analysis
  • Experience with questionnaires
  • Experience with interviews
  • Fluency in the Icelandic language in written and oral communication
