Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”. HKUST(GZ) is located at No.1 Duxue Road, Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha District, Guangzhou. The campus covers an area of about 1,669 mu (111.3 hectares) and is divided into two construction phases. The first phase covers an area of about 716 mu (47.7 hectares) with a floorage of about 636,000 square meters (63.6 hectares), which has been officially put into use in September 2022.
The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures. HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, Society Hub and offers 15 postgraduate degrees. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000.
Advanced Materials (AMAT) Thrust, an academic department under Function Hub, aims to rigorously explore the fundamental materials structure and property relationships and to unlock the potential of basic elements of natural sciences for conducting cutting-edge research for materials discovery and innovation. To become a global leader in functional materials research and development.
Advanced Materials Thrust has multiple faculty positions with or without tenure at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor levels. We welcome applicants with research focus in the following areas, including but not limited to:
• Functional polymer materials
• Metamaterials
• Bio-engineering and bio-medical materials
• Optoelectronic materials
• Quantum materials
• Electronic materials
• Materials informatics
• Wearable sensors
• Materials modeling and computation
Qualification of Candidates
Applicants must have a PhD degree in relevant fields.
• Applicants of tenure-track Assistant Professorship should demonstrate strong research and teaching potentials.
• Applicants of Associate Professorship should have a proven record in independent research, teaching, student supervision, and service.
• Applicants of Professorship should have world-class academic achievements, international academic leadership, and an established track record in teaching, student supervision and funding.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generous research funds, ample laboratory space and excellent research equipment and support will be provided. Appointment to Professor rank and some Associate Professor rank will be made on substantive basis while initial appointment to other faculty ranks will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years.
