In June 2022, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) was founded as a higher education institution governed jointly by the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The university is situated in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, a highly active and vibrant region in the world. The State Council of the People’s Republic of China has issued the “Overall Plan of Nansha of Guangzhou for Deepening the Comprehensive Global Cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao,” which has aided in the establishment and growth of the university.
HKUST(GZ) aims to craft an innovative approach to cross-disciplinary education and research and to meet the needs of an ever-evolving world. To address the increasingly complex challenges in this rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) has adopted a unique academic structure that features “Hubs” and “Thrusts” instead of “Schools” and “Departments.” This approach facilitates cross-disciplinary innovation and extends the knowledge frontiers across disciplines. Teaching and research at HKUST(GZ) take place in an outstanding intellectual environment that is rich in technical resources. English is the medium of instruction.
The Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering Thrust (https://hkust-gz.edu.cn/academics/four-hubs/systems-hub/bioscience-and-biomedical-engineering) at HKUST(GZ) now invites applications for multiple tenure-track and tenured faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor). Although applications from outstanding individuals in any area of Bioscience and Bioengineering will be considered, the Thrust especially encourages applications in Stem Cell Biology, Cell and Tissue Biology, Chemical and Synthetic Biology, Proteomics, Biomaterial Science, and Computational Biology. The Thrust is expected to grow substantially in the next few years in terms of academic staff, programs, resources, and facilities.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in relevant fields. The appointees are expected to establish an independent and internationally competitive research program. Teaching responsibilities include postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generous start-up funding, ample laboratory space, and excellent research equipment and support will be provided.
All posts are tenure-track appointments in Mainland China and to be offered by the HKUST(GZ) in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations. Appointments at Professor rank and some at Associate Professor rank will be made on a substantive basis while initial appointment to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a 6-year contract basis with a mid-term review.
