The two positions are W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorships with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor) or W3 Associate/Full Professorships (tenured); to begin as soon as possible.
Scientific Profile and Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.
For the professorship “Social Determinants of Health” we seek to appoint a scholar with a research profile in the social sciences, whose research explores how socio-economic factors shape health outcomes by stratifying access to and engagement with health-promoting activities (e.g. physical activity, healthy nutrition, stress reduction & resilience building, regular health care, education and (digital) health technologies). We are particularly interested in researchers who explore the social determinants of health in the period of growing up, who center issues of health equity, diversity and social justice, and who are able to integrate or speak across social science and epidemiological perspectives.
For the professorship “Health Literacy” we seek to appoint a scholar with a research profile in the social sciences, particularly in health communication, whose research focuses on understanding challenges and paths to health literacy in society. We are particularly interested in researchers who explore the role of physical and/or mental health literacy for health promotion and disease prevention, who center issues of health equity, diversity and social justice in their approach, or who engage with the potentials of (digital) technologies for promoting health literacy in society (EHealth Literacy, Technology based Literacy. Addressing the issues of physical and/or mental Health Literacy in youth by implementation and evaluation of Health Literacy programs in settings complementary to school is especially welcome.
Scientific Environment
The professorships will be assigned to the TUM Department of Sport and Health Sciences. The department is expanding its portfolio in prevention and health promotion based on physical activity and healthy lifestyle. We aim for a close cooperation of the professorship with currently existing health and prevention research at the department and at other TUM departments, e.g., Department of Medicine, TUM School of Education, TUM School of Governance, the Munich Center for Technology in Society, TUM School of Life Sciences and Department of Architecture. Qualifications We are looking for candidates with a university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to their current career level. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. The successful candidate must show pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English.
