The Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for one full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of Environmental Resources Policy and Stewardship. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in geography, environmental studies, Indigenous studies, environmental policy, or a related field, by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, and have a record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and deepen our existing departmental strengths (http://www.utm.utoronto.ca/geography/research-clusters). We especially welcome candidates whose research agenda investigates critical and creative Indigenous approaches to natural resource policy, Indigenous legal orders and governance, and/or environmental stewardship and sustainability. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an innovative, independent, competitive, and externally funded program of research. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the Environment programs in the Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment at UTM, and will also become a full member of the Graduate Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto, undertaking graduate teaching and supervision. Evidence of excellence in research can be demonstrated through publications (accepted or published) in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals; presentations at significant conferences; research grants and awards; other examples of scholarly output, knowledge dissemination, and creative work; and strong endorsements by referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through a teaching dossier and teaching accomplishments, as well as strong letters of reference. The dossier must include a statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, sample course materials, or evidence of superior performance and/or innovation in teaching-related activities. This evidence may include awards, grants, performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.
