Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation working to promote bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources. Work tasks
The field of research is on methods related to forest production function modeling and their application in multiple-use forest inventory and planning in changing environmental conditions. The scope extends from traditional timber-oriented production functions to vegetation and game-related functions and ecosystem services of forests.
The research professor is expected to actively develop the strategic orientation of ambitious research projects, lead the development of large-scale international project entities, develop and scientifically lead a strong research group in the field of research at Luke, and secure long-term broad-based funding.
Qualifications
The research professor (associate or full professor) should have a doctoral degree in a relevant field. We appreciate a proven track record showing understanding of biometrics and forest inventory, including remote sensing, experience on using forest data on varying scales, application of simulation methods and complex model systems, and assessment of uncertainty in complex computations in the context of forest modeling.
The task requires internationally valued and recognized know-how, experience of managing the entire process of broad research or development entities from needs assessment to application of research results, and capacity to build a strong international research project portfolio, actively collaborate with academic and industrial players and stimulate active use of research results by beneficiaries. The research professor is also expected to having established international networks and to be actively engaged in national and international collaborations. The research professor should have proven track record in obtaining precompetitive research funding, track record in managing international research projects, building attractive research environments and publishing and disseminating scientific results. Close interaction with private and public stakeholders is seen as an advantage.

Salary
The position is at complexity level 12 – 13 in Luke’s salary system. Therefore, the position-specific salary component is EUR 4 947.83 – 5 588.81 per month. In addition to the position-specific salary component, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. It can be at most 50% of the position-specific salary component. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
