Research Professor In Plant Health

Work tasks

The research professorship in plant health is focused on integrated pest management in field and horticulture crops in changing climate. Within the area of plant health, special attention is paid on knowing and monitoring the pests (weeds, insects, plant diseases) in aim to develop and design diverse and resilient cropping systems that are less exposed to pests. The research provides technical knowledge and management solutions for sustainable agriculture mainly in the Boreal zone. The person nominated in the position is expected to actively develop the strategic orientation of ambitious research projects, lead the development of large-scale project entities, and procurement of long-term broad-based national and international research funding.

Qualifications

The research professor (tenure track: associate or full professor) should have a doctoral degree in plant pathology, entomology or weed science. High-quality scientific publication record in plant health and good methodological skills, e.g. in modeling are essential. Position will require excellent problem-solving, communication and leadership skills, capacity to apply for national and international research funding, and capacity for collaboration and knowledge exchange with different stakeholders, including industry and the Finnish Government.

We expect the candidate is responsible for the development of research in plant health and is able to establish synergies to secure interdisciplinary approaches. The research professor is expected to build a strong research project portfolio with an active customer interface, collaborate with academic and industrial players in agro-industry and stimulate use of research results by beneficiaries. The research professor is also expected to have established international networks and to be actively engaged in national and international collaborations. The research professor should have strong track record in leading and managing international research projects, gaining international research funding, building attractive research environments and in publishing and disseminating scientific results. Close interaction with entrepreneurial stakeholders is seen as an advantage.

Salary

 The position is at complexity level 12 – 13 in Luke’s salary system. Therefore, the position-specific salary component is EUR 4 947.83 – 5 588.81 per month. In addition to the position-specific salary component, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. It can be at most 50% of the position-specific salary component. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
