One or more positions as (full) professor within the field of terrestrial ecology with focus on Artic environments are available at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University. The positions are to be filled as soon as possible.
The candidates are expected to work with, strengthen and expand the departments existing research groups studying effects of climate changes on Arctic terrestrial ecosystems and biodiversity. The department is responsible for several Arctic monitoring programs, and data from the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) and their linkages to various initiatives, such as Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF), are central to the research and advisory activities in the department. The department’s research and advisory activities are project-based with a solid tradition in cross-disciplinary research and strong collaboration.
Requirements
The candidates should have an internationally strong research profile within terrestrial ecosystem ecology and solid research experience in Artic environments and ecosystems. We expect the candidates to have a background in biology or similar as base for a strong scientific career and an extensive international network. The candidates should be able to combine short-term research, long-term monitoring and experimental work across a broad selection of Arctic taxa and environments. Research areas of special interest include, but are not limited to, Arctic biodiversity, species interactions and population ecology. The candidates should demonstrate experience with an ecosystem approach spanning across the biotic and abiotic and preferably across terrestrial, limnic and marine ecosystems. We expect a solid theoretical and practical numeric and statistical background and proven experience with the analysis and processing of large datasets.
Strong collaborative as well as research management skills are required as is a strong international network and a documented track record of attracting substantial external funding. The candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent scientific leadership and experience in successful supervision of postdocs and Ph.D. students.
Department of Bioscience
The Department of Bioscience is engaged in research programs, teaching curricula and consultancy covering all major biological sub-disciplines, and we conduct world-class research in the areas of Arctic environment and ecosystems, aquatic biology and ecology, biodiversity and conservation biology. The Department currently employs approximately 250 academic and technical staff.
The department has an international leading role within Arctic research and advisory activities relating to the impact of environmental change on Arctic nature and the society. The department has a central role in research on effects of climate change on the Arctic ecosystems and communities. The major areas of focus are Arctic terrestrial biodiversity, carbon exchange between land and atmosphere, and the underlying biological, chemical and physical processes, as well as the interactions between these. We play a leading role in providing advice to the authorities of Greenland on environmental issues including wildlife health and medicine and the relation to human health in the Arctic. We are also deeply involved in the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring program (GEM, http://www.g-e-m.dk) and run the interdisciplinary and internationally acclaimed research station, Zackenberg (http://www.zackenberg.dk).

Place of Employment
The Department of Bioscience currently has three work locations; one in Roskilde, one in Silkeborg and one in Kalø. The latter two are located in Jutland and will move to the Aarhus University Campus within the next 2-3 years. The place of employment will be either in Roskilde (Frederiksborgvej 399, DK-4000 Roskilde) or in Kalø (Grenåvej 14, DK-8410 Rønde).

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be written in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, track record of attracted research funding, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience and advisory activities. Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
