French Linguistics – Assistant / Associate Professor

The School of Liberal Arts in the Faculty of Arts at Laurentian University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor with a specialization in French linguistics. The preferred start date is July 1, 2024*.

Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. degree by the start date of the appointment, and relevant experience can be an asset. The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:

• Ph.D. in French linguistics (applied or theoretical) or a related field
• Evidence of the ability to effectively teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels in French linguistics and French as a second language
• Commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence
• Commitment to promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University’s bilingual and tricultural mandates
• Evidence of very good research and scholarship with the potential to work collaboratively with colleagues, secure funding support and build internal and external interdisciplinary or intersectoral collaborations
• Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment
• Active knowledge of both official languages, French and English (functional bilingualism as per LU’s Policy on Bilingualism)
• Demonstrated knowledge of French minority settings in Ontario and Canada.

In addition to active engagement and participation in teaching and research, the successful candidate will be expected to make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community. An on-campus presence is expected.
The School of Liberal Arts seeks to understand the breadth of human experience and expression in the areas of law, culture and language from contemporary and historical perspectives. Faculty members also contribute to the Interdisciplinary M.A. in Relational Studies, and the Ph.D. in Human Studies and Interdisciplinarity. In the course of their studies, our students acquire analytical and expressive skills to become thinkers, communicators, creators and innovators.
