Position Summary:

The Department of Biology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a 2-year, non-tenure track Teaching Faculty instructional position that will begin August 10, 2024. This appointment has a service component commensurate with rank. This appointment may be renewable contingent upon department/program needs, availability of funds, and performance review.
We seek an individual with teaching expertise in and enthusiasm for teaching introductory biology. The successful applicant will teach the spring semester of a two-semester introductory biology series, focusing on organisms, ecology, and evolution. Additional teaching expectations will include non-majors courses in the applicant’s area of expertise that contribute to the general education requirements, known as the College (COLL) Curriculum. There is no expectation of research scholarship associated with this position. However, the successful applicant is expected to remain current in biology education (pedagogy), keep curricula current with the latest discoveries in biology, and actively participate in revising and improving the introductory biology curriculum. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective and engaging teacher, will have a [3-3] teaching load, and will be expected to contribute to academic advising and serving on committees.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2024) and have prior teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous teaching experience at the introductory level is preferred, as is a demonstrated commitment to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Postdoctoral research experience is desirable.
