The Department of Historical Studies (previously the department of History and the department of Classics & Ancient History) at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton campus, invites applications for a Tenure Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on July 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in History, or be close to completion, with research and teaching expertise in Canadian History.

Although the thematic and regional specializations are open, we seek a scholar with expertise in the long twentieth century. The successful candidate will join a department with strengths in the histories of imperialism, colonialism, and slavery; war and society; intelligence and/or policing; gender and sexuality; health and disability; the environment; the Atlantic region.

Our new colleague will join a dynamic department of excellent teachers and researchers and work in strong undergraduate and graduate programs. There will be opportunity to work with the Atlantic Canada Studies Centre, the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society, and the department’s scholarly periodical, Acadiensis: Journal of the History of the Atlantic Region. The University of New Brunswick is situated on unceded and unsurrendered Wəlastəkwey territory and is covered by the Peace and Friendship Treaties. Fredericton, a provincial capital, is located on the Wolastoq and is a vibrant city with diverse music and art scenes, extensive walking and cycling trails, many nature parks, and a historic downtown.
