The Department of English at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton invites applications for a Tenure-Track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to commence on July 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval.

The ideal candidate will have a nationally recognized record of achievement in literary fiction, including at least one major publication. They should also have demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring roles, as they must be able to teach graduate creative writing courses and supervise creative theses by PhD and MA students; they will also teach undergraduate literature and creative writing courses at all levels. The successful applicant will assume the role of Co-Director of Creative Writing, contributing to student advising and administration of the creative writing program as well as our Writer-in-Residence and Public Reading Series programs; helping to edit The Fiddlehead may also be expected. Applicants should have graduate training in English and/or Creative Writing; a PhD is preferred and an MA is required. Demonstrated knowledge of the publishing world is an asset. Applicants with proven abilities in creative non-fiction may be given special consideration.

A small, research-intensive department with a reputation for high-quality teaching located on unceded Wolastoqey lands in New Brunswick’s capital city, UNB’s Department of English offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including a longstanding creative writing stream in the MA and a newer creative writing stream in the PhD that is one of only two such programs in Canada.

Interested individuals should submit a cover letter outlining their creative and teaching interests and experience as they relate to the position, along with a curriculum vitae that includes the names of three referees and a sample of their creative work of no more than 30 pages (preferably in electronic format).
