Job Description: In addition to extensive teaching and leadership experience, the ideal candidate is someone with experience in applied research projects, as well as strong connections to industry. Saskatchewan Polytechnic is expanding its research, which requires the new Academic Chair for the School of Business to help guide projects, as well as leverage their industry connections. General Accountability The primary role of the academic chair is bridging the needs of their program areas within the strategic goals of the School of Business and School of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Working with a strong base and knowledge of the post-secondary sector, the chair is responsible for the academic and operations management of assigned programs and ensure programs and services are delivered with a focus on quality education and training delivery. This is achieved by maintaining effective links with business sectors, industry, government, accrediting agencies and other educational institutions as they relate to programming needs. The academic chair will lead the program area faculty and staff to student-centered program and teaching excellence. Nature & Scope The chair is based at any Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus and the chair reports to the associate dean, School of Business & School of ICT and department of Arts and Sciences. The primary responsibilities of the chair include academic leadership, operations management and administration (financial management, people management, facilities, and project planning and execution) and strategic planning. The chair is responsible for leading program staff and faculty in the effective delivery of programs and services. This will include advocating and supporting program areas when engaging with internal and external stakeholders, business sectors, government partners or other educational institutions. This position will be responsible for ensuring the operational requirements for program areas are met and where needed, are secured. The academic chair has a number of direct reports that can include faculty and other employees located across the various Saskatchewan Polytechnic locations and at educational partner sites. The chair will be responsible for all elements of the employee life cycle for faculty and staff in their program areas (staffing, recruitment, selection, orientation, training and development). The academic chair is responsible for monitoring the fiscal resources and recommending efficiencies within the assigned programs. It may be necessary for the academic chair to travel for program and administrative responsibilities. Additional travel may be required provincially and nationally to represent the School(s) and Saskatchewan Polytechnic on committees. The School of Business and School of ICT provides degree, diploma and/or certificate programs in many areas. The School(s) also offers general, introductory and specialized courses in a variety of disciplines through varied delivery methods.

Qualifications: Candidates will be considered in accordance with the minimum education requirements to support the programs supervised. For this position, a diploma, degree or professional designation in a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.

Experience in educational management/operational leadership and instructional experience in a post-secondary institution is preferred.

About the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration The Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration (CERC Migration) is led by Professor Anna Triandafyllidou. The program is producing innovative and usable knowledge on the links between migration and post-migration processes, forced and voluntary mobility, internal and international migration, and the role of countries of origin and transit. CERC Migration pays special attention to Canadian realities while also engaging in comparative research with and among other countries in various global regions. The CERC Migration program at TorontoMet is home to a team of 25 researchers ranging from pre- to post-doctoral and senior level positions, 13 current graduate student scholarship holders, as well as part-time research assistants that support the program’s various projects.   1. Data collection and processing: gathering, assembling, harmonizing, and combining migration and population data from various sources (administrative datasets, surveys, and population census) from IRCC, CBSA, IRBA, STATSCAN, at different spatial scales (national, provincial and granular levels)
  2. Data modelling: apply migration and demographic methods (such as demographic accounting methods by cohort) to measure current and future population growth across regions; perform sensitivity analyses and robustness checks to validate models’ results; carry out demographic projection models based on assumptions to simulate policy relevant migration scenarios.
  3. Data analysis: examine and interpret results of data models to assess the impact of migration on national/provincial and local population systems.
  4. Writing: able to write research papers for publication in an academic journal.
Qualifications Minimum PhD in Demography, Geography, Statistics, or related discipline.Expertise in migration and demographic modelling and data analysis: at least 4 years of academic or relevant professional experience in gathering migration and population data, developing migration and population models, working with demographic projection models, and writing research papers. Knowledge of statistical programming using software (such as: R, Python and/or Stata). Previous work experience in collaborative projects or teams; ability to work autonomously as well as follow guidelines, work with a team, keep deadlines and report to supervisor regularly on progress of work. AD23-11 The School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate or full Professor level for the E. Alan (OAC ’60) and Jule A. Cameron Chair in Ecological Pest Management. This Chair is funded through a $3 million endowment sponsored by Dr. Alan and Jule Cameron. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in entomology, ecology, or ecosystem science with a focus on forest ecosystems or agroecosystems and should be an exceptional emerging or established scholar who has demonstrated research excellence through a strong publication record in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals and who is leading or has the potential to lead in their field. Applicants should have expertise in forest and/or crop pest management with a focus on ecologically based pest management strategies and tactics in forest or agricultural systems including, for example, biological control (insects, pathogens); chemical ecology (pheromones, kairomones, allomones); minimally environmentally impactful chemical and/or biological insecticides; pathogen ecology/control; integrated pest management; etc. Experience in field-based research is an asset. The position provides an excellent opportunity to build on existing strengths and reputation within the School of Environmental Sciences (SES) in the field of pest management. The SES is a multi-disciplinary academic unit with researchers in a range of fields (soil science, geology, agricultural meteorology, forest and ecosystem science, environmental microbiology, environmental toxicology, and plant pathology) and has an outstanding international reputation in the fields of entomology, including pest management, pollinator conservation, insect ecology, and insect systematics and evolution.

The position will require the development of a strong extramurally funded research program involving the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have responsibility for teaching existing and/or new courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in ecological pest management. Strong communication skills are essential, and applicants will provide clear evidence of effective teaching, with classroom experience considered an asset. Collaboration in research and graduate training is encouraged with others in SES, the Ontario Agricultural College, the University of Guelph and other universities, as well as with federal and provincial ministries. Faculty in SES are expected to provide service to the University, to the scientific community, and to society at large. Knowledge Translation and Transfer (KTT), especially in the form of direct outreach to Ontario’s integrated pest management community, will constitute an important and expected criterion for the Chair holder. This will provide much needed support for farmers and/or foresters with respect to the understanding and management of new and existing insect pest species, especially in relation to climate change and the greater potential for invasive species to succeed in the Canadian climate.

Researchers in the SES have links across campus including Geography, Environment and Geomatics, The School of Engineering, Integrative Biology, the Morwick G360 Groundwater Research Institute, Animal Biosciences, Food Science, Ridgetown Campus and Plant Agriculture, as well as with producer organizations and members of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Vineland Research and Innovation Center, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Ontario Ministry of the Environment, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The University of Ottawa and its Faculty of Science invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) with applications related to Quaternary science, which may include paleoecology, paleolimnology, paleoclimatology, carbon cycling, and modern surface processes.

The successful candidate will work in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and should be an established researcher who have received widespread recognition for their sustained accomplishments in applying radiotracers and isotopes to investigate knowledge gaps in Quaternary science. This position will involve strategic long-term collaboration with, and use of, the André E. Lalonde AMS Laboratory and other geochemical facilities including the Ján Veizer Stable Isotope Laboratory hosted within University of Ottawa. The AEL AMS Lab is a Canadian National Laboratory, which hosts unique instrumentation including a MICADAS (2022) and a recently upgraded 3MV AMS (2023) along with a world-class sample preparation facility for radiocarbon and actinides analyses. The candidate will have extensive analytical experience in AMS techniques and a long-term research vision for incorporating AMS technology in their research program.

Analytical laboratories on campus include microbeam (SEM, TEM, EMPA), X-ray (SCXRD, PXRD, XRF, Micro-CT), and geochemical (LA-ICP-MS, ICP-ES, ICP-OES) facilities, and noble gas and stable isotope instrumentation. The University of Ottawa is recognized nationally and internationally as one of the best universities in the country and the largest bilingual university in the world.

Tier 1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. For each Tier 1 Chair, the institution receives $200,000 annually for seven years. Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Alternatively, if they come from outside the academic sector, nominees must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels. New CRC nominees are also eligible for infrastructure support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to help acquire state-of-the-art equipment essential to their work.

Duties: The responsibilities include: 1) teaching across the broad spectrum of Earth and environmental sciences; 2) supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students; 3) maintaining a strong track record of attracting research funding, 4) preparing large grant applications and overseeing their implementation to ensure funding requirements are met and infrastructure is maintained (the 6-year cycle of the Major Science Initiative funding for the AEL-AMS was successfully renewed in 2023), and 5) promoting a competitive publication record demonstrating impactful scientific contributions.

Rank and salary: Regular tenure-track academic appointment in the Faculty of Science. The salary range for a full professor is $118,864 to $207,511 (based on the May 1, 2023, scale of the collective agreement between APUO and the University of Ottawa). Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), University of Guelph is seeking applications to fill a position in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. Although this position will have a principal activity of teaching in the department (up to 5 courses/year or 70%), the candidate will also maintain both a scholarly activity (10%) and service (20%) distribution of effort. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in an area related to the field of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine and a demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses in this and related biomedical fields. The successful applicant will serve as the faculty advisor for our Collaborative Specialization in Regenerative Medicine graduate program.  The successful applicant must have a minimum of 2 years of university teaching, training or postdoctoral experience and will also demonstrate a commitment to the scholarship and research mission of the Department by employing scholarly approaches and innovative methodologies in fields relevant to Biomedical Sciences. This includes but is not necessarily limited to, teaching and learning, knowledge translation and transfer, curricular development, methods of delivery and assessment, etc.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is responsible for delivering professional and specialist undergraduate education, and research training. In addition to courses in the DVM and BSc programs, the Department offers graduate course-based Masters, and thesis-based MSc and PhD programs in each of the departmental discipline fields. A large component of the research agenda within the Department of Biomedical Sciences is in translating fundamental research into practical applications to enhance human and/or animal health, with expertise in Reproductive Biology and Development, Cardiovascular Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Cancer and Cell Biology, Stem cell and Regenerative Medicine and Neuroscience. Several faculty in the Department hold leadership roles in the Centre for Cardiovascular Investigations (CCVI), the Bench to Bedside Institute for Translational Health Research and Innovation and an emerging center in Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. There are also extensive opportunities for collaborative studies.

The successful candidate should be able to teach in multiple SENS sustainability courses including one or more of Regenerative Sustainability, Systems Thinking, Sustainability in Theory and Practice, and Sustainability in Action. A candidate who has worked outside of academia may also be well-positioned to support professional skills development across our professional and thesis-based programs. We will prioritize candidates who clearly articulate how their research and teaching contributions will enhance SENS’ sustainability-related research and teaching themes.

Agri-environmental challenges include stress on crops and natural ecosystems due to increasing disease and insect pressure exacerbated by climate extremes and soil health issues.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a productive, innovative and competitively funded research program working in plant pathology that is recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally. Potential areas of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Epidemiological approaches using spatial/temporal digital technologies and data analytics,
  • Omics approaches applied to plant pathology,
  • Host-pathogen interactions within the context of changing environments,
  • Applying artificial intelligence and smart technologies, to study pathogens and identify management solutions,
  • Disease management and development of agroecological solutions that improve crop resilience, and/or

The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate students as well as mentor  and train graduate students. The teaching assignment will reflect the expertise of the successful candidate within the needs of the department and may include courses at the entry- and/or upper- level. Service responsibilities include development of good working relationships with appropriate commodity and community groups, industry and government. The candidate is expected to become an active, engaged member of the Department, Faculty and University, and is encouraged to maintain professional membership in the Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists. Funded by the Arrell Family Foundation, this Chair position is intended to recruit an outstanding researcher in Food Studies who will work collaboratively with other Arrell Chairs on campus and will develop an externally funded research program at the University of Guelph to influence food policies, practices, and behaviours locally, nationally and internationally.

It is anticipated that the new hire will have a distribution of effort of 20% teaching, 40% research and 40% service, and that the service component of this job will be directed toward: (1) service to the Arrell Food Institute to help reach its vision, goals and deliver on its programs; and (2) outreach to the non-academic community to raise the University of Guelph’s reputation as “Canada’s Food University”. The anticipated duration of the Chair appointment is 5 years, and thereafter the distribution of effort will revert to the standard 40% teaching, 40% research and 20% service.

The successful applicant will work at the intersection of sustainable food systems, cultural, economic, and/or social practices and processes relating to food geographies; and agricultural, health, labour, and safety regulation policies. In particular, the Arrell Chair in Food, Policy and Society will utilize geographic and/or social science methods to enrich other areas of the University of Guelph’s food research addressing pressing issues of food justice and policy.

The research focus of the Chair must address the above broad themes, and may also include research foci such as: social justice, race and gender in food systems and food transitions; local food systems in relation to industrial production, distribution and governance systems, Indigenous food sovereignty, community food security, the intersection of biodiversity conservation, climate change and food production and consumption, food security and international development, among others.

The Arrell Chair in Food, Policy and Society will join the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics as an experienced interdisciplinary and community-engaged researcher who will lead a research program that attracts a diverse range of graduate students, postdoctoral, community-based, and faculty researchers. As well, the Arrell Chair in Food, Policy & Society will play an important role in advancing the strategic objectives of the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. We would welcome candidates who use innovative approaches in knowledge mobilization, community engagement, and public scholarship and who can contribute to additional strengths in the department and college.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate courses in their area(s) of expertise through scholarly teaching and participate in the administration of the Arrell Food Institute. As such, the candidate will also be expected to engage with non-academic stakeholders on a regular basis, including communicating with the media, working with industry / civil society, and brokering relationships in the broad area of food across campus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate attention to the broader public health and societal contexts in which their research is located.  Candidates will be expected to work with communities disproportionally impacted by chronic illness (e.g., persons of Black, Indigenous, South Asian, low-income, and other minority or marginalized backgrounds) in an applied context, such as working with local leaders and operators in advancing knowledge translation. The successful candidate will engage high-risk groups, community-based organizations, and policymakers in the region of Peel to co-develop, implement, and evaluate effective, feasible and equitable interventions that consider local context and needs. They will also commit to sharing their knowledge locally and broadly so that findings can be applied across multiple settings. They will foster multi-disciplinary collaboration through a community-focused vision and build capacity with learners and community members. The successful candidate’s research must also align with the UTM Academic Plan and strategic research priorities, which should be explicitly discussed in the cover letter.  Candidates must also align with the strategic research directions of the University of Toronto’s Novo Nordisk Network for Healthy Populations, a cross-disciplinary research network that aims to reduce the burden of diabetes and related chronic conditions through community-based interventions. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the network’s overall strategic priorities as a core member of the scientific steering committee, to contribute to the education program, and to collaborate with other network members in cross-disciplinary initiatives. Candidates will also be required to demonstrate strong administrative, collaborative leadership, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will have a primary appointment in the Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment at UTM and a graduate appointment in the tri-campus Department of Geography and Planning, with the potential for cross-appointments including but not limited to the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, and/or Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing.
