The Center for Photonics and Quantum Materials (CPQM) at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a tentative starting date of January 2021.
CPQM is opening a position of an assistant professor in Terahertz-Nanophotonics and Integration Technology. CPQM is looking for an internationally experienced candidate with a profound background and experimental and technological expertise in terahertz and nanophotonics engineering. The successful candidate will perform primarily experimental research of advanced, precise, compact terahertz-nanophotonic components and devices and their applications in (including but not limited to) 5G, 6G, tele- and data-communication systems, free-space and fiber-based optical communication systems, AI-assisted embedded and autonomous operation. He/she will engage in experimental, conceptual, and theoretical cooperation with existing CPQM research in optical signal generation, processing, and transmission, and in life sciences / biophotonics and, thus, strengthen synergies and coherent collaboration in those fields.
Candidates with substantial international expertise in integrated terahertz and nanophotonic components, devices and systems with a proven track record of acquiring, conducting, and leading such projects, specifically in cooperation with third-party academic institutions, funding agencies, government entities, and photonic nanofabrication facilities as well as with related international institutes are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants with experience in embedding nanomaterials for enhancing, miniaturizing and ingratiation of THz devices and systems are preferred.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate substantial expertise in applications of above-mentioned technologies with a relevant publication track record and proven track record in planning, conducting, and leading such projects. Skoltech is part of a self-sustaining innovation ecosystem with the mission to support Russian high-tech industry, therefore experience in innovation and entrepreneurial activities is required.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in electrical engineering or in an equivalent suitable discipline. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarly output at the international level that demonstrates potential for independent sustainable research, innovation and teaching activities leading to peer‑reviewed publications in top-level international journals/conferences and proven excellence in teaching.
It is expected that the appointed candidate will take an active part in Skoltech and CPQM strategic activities in photonics research and in educational programs. Faculty duties include teaching at the graduate level, supervising student and innovation projects, and conducting competitive research in the above-mentioned areas at the level of excellence.
All activities at Skoltech are carried out in English. Therefore, candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
The successful candidate shall have his sole affiliation at Skoltech, adjunct affiliations with other leading institutions are encouraged, secondary or multiple affiliations are discouraged.
